(North) Korean News: "Anniversary of Corrective Movement in Syria Observed"

The "Corrective Movement," or "Corrective Revolution," is the coup that brought Hafez al-Assad to power!
The Corrective Movement in Syria on Nov. 16, 1970 was a historic movement that reflected the desire of the Syrian people to protect the independence of the country and the dignity of the nation and build independent new Syria, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article devoted to the 36th anniversary of the movement. The article says:

The U.S. and its ally Israel, regarding Syria holding high the banner of independence against imperialism as a thorn in their eyes, have worked hard to break the anti-imperialist independent stand and the will of the Syrian Arab people, employing every conceivable despicable method such as interference in its internal affairs, military threat and economic sanctions.

No machinations of the enemies could bring the Syrian Arab people confident of the justice of their cause to their knees.

The Syrian Arab people are now hastening the construction of independent and prosperous new Syria while smashing the moves of the enemies against Syria under the leadership of their President Bashar Al-Assad.

The Korean people send support and solidarity to the Syrian Arab people in their struggle to retake the Golan Heights from Israel, achieve territorial integrity and find a comprehensive and just solution to the Middle East issue.

The just struggle of the Syrian Arab people steadfastly advancing along the road of independence against imperialism is sure to yield a desired result.
