'Good tidings' to Hezbollah for the coming of Eid, with the international forces becoming embroiled in southern Lebanon, searching for new bases of engagement to find a way of ending Israel's penetration of Lebanese airspace, not pursuing Hezbollah's fighters to disarm them or campaigning against the caves to collect their stockpiles of thousands of rockets that Israel's July War has failed to destroy.
Also, 'good tidings' to the Lebanese, with whom the horrors of the war and its calamities have not parted. There is worry that these missiles will turn northward, at the internal front, if the avalanche of insults between the majority and the opposition explodes into confrontations in the streets on the basis of political sectarianism and 'backstabbing'. This will be 'good tidings' if the Lebanese think that, this time, they will witness a war that is different from what they have been accustomed to: between the missiles of the UNIFIL emergency forces and the Israeli aircraft! UNIFIL has become Lebanese then? Is this why the enemy encampment is threatening to strike the bases south of the Litany, if it dares to fire at Israeli planes?!
This is Lebanese rivalry with distinction, and before we believe that the coming war will be between the enemy and the international forces (!), we should not take lightly Israel's talk of having evidence that has been sent to Washington about the increase of arms smuggled to Hezbollah through Syria. Israel also warns that it will take punitive measures when its patience runs out. Needless to say, the ultimate goal of the Israelis is that the international forces become strict with Hezbollah and begin the phase of disarming it and its hidden arsenal after the phase of learning to co-exist with the Lebanese army in the South.
